Why Did The Yom Kippur War Happen?

On the 6th October 1973 Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel. They had chosen to attack on the day of Yom Kippur, believing that it would give them an advantage. The news stunned Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Golda Meir, because Israeli Intelligence had believed there was a low probability of war.
